Freezing Order
Formerly known as a Mareva injunction, a freezing order is, as its name suggests, an order of the court freezing someone’s assets.
It is usually granted while the main claim is still ongoing and can only be granted where there is a serious risk of someone deliberately removing all their assets from the court’s jurisdiction or trying to hide them. Hiding money to avoid a creditor getting paid is an example.
The courts do not make freezing orders lightly. We will advise you at the start on the likely prospects of obtaining a freezing order and the likely costs.
