Party Wall Disputes

If you are sharing a wall with a neighbour or business you want to be sure that neither of you does any work which might affect the other’s property.

If your neighbour is planning on repairing, extending or demolishing a party wall you want any inconvenience kept to a minimum and for there to be no impact on your property which can cause problems later on. You might want to employ a surveyor to check that foundations are not affected.

As someone planning on carrying out works to a party wall you need to make sure you do not fall foul of the legal requirements.

Good communication is key but legal requirements require notices to be served so that party wall owners are aware of any planned works and have an opportunity to check how it affects them. The Party Wall Act 1996 sets out all the requirements.

If a disputes does arise at Hart Brown our specialists will help you find a solution which is cost effective and sensible. We can help you with the service of notices or advise you on what to do if you receive one.

To speak to someone who can help with a party wall dispute, call, email or request a call back from one of our specialist lawyers.
