Age
As an employer it is important not to discriminate on the grounds of age. The Equality (Age) Regulations make it unlawful.
Discrimination can take many forms including:
- failing to promote an older person because of their age
- failing to train an older person because of their age
- offering benefits that require the employee to be a certain age meaning younger people cannot receive them
- using age as a criteria for selecting someone for redundancy
- forcing retirement other than in accordance with the retirement age
At Hart Brown we have advised many employers on matters including:
- imposing a standard retirement age
- how to retire someone and not fall foul of age discrimination
- handling long term service to avoid possible discrimination
- requests to work beyond the standard retirement age
- justified discrimination
- defending claims for discrimination and harassment
The amount of compensation that can be awarded is unlimited
