Rain forced us inside for the second year in a row as Godalming Proms in the Park returned on Saturday 9th September. A mix between bright sunshine and torrential rain meant that an early decision was made to move inside into the Church of Saint Peter and Saint Paul for this year’s Proms.
Despite the bad weather, there was again a great turnout who saw an impressive performance from the Godalming Band, playing as part of their 80th anniversary celebrations. The band played a variety of songs under the theme of “Space, our planet and human existence”, as well as old favourites including Jerusalem and the National Anthem.
We were very proud to be sponsoring the event again, helping the event to run and also helping the chosen charity, Skillway, through receiving donations. Skillway are Godalming based and help disadvantaged teenagers from the local area through the teaching of workshop and craft skills. We set out our table with Pimms, programmes, colouring sheets and crayons with donations taken by our team consisting of David Knapp, Sharon Powell, John Guthrie, Debbie Beswick, Carol Parkin, Rebecca White and Tom May. We have had a presence in Godalming for nearly 100 years and enjoy being part of the community and supporting projects such as the charity Skillway.
