Defamation
No one likes to find out that somebody else has been telling lies about them or publishing false information about them in a widely circulated letter or a newspaper or magazine article.
We can advise you on how best to deal with such a problem and to suggest the most cost effective way of bringing a distressing situation to a satisfactory conclusion. Sometimes the defamatory statement can be so serious as to cause far reaching consequences. Court proceedings even may be necessary to clear your name. However, in most cases, an apology and a promise not to repeat the defamatory comments will be sufficient.
We deal with all aspects of defamation claims, including:
- preparing the letter of claim if we are pursuing a defamation claim and drafting a letter of apology if we are defending one
- arranging for the issue of proceedings claiming damages for slander or libel
- making an application to the court for an order to prevent a defamatory statement from being published or repeated
