It is important to understand what notifications amount to a disclosure protected under PIDA (a “protected disclosure”). Similarly as an employee you must comply with specific requirements in order to gain protection under PIDA. Accordingly not all disclosures made will be protected.
Illegal activities can include:
- the dumping of toxic waste
- fraudulent accounting
- illegal contracts
- tax evasion
- danger to the health and safety of any individual by the employer
- damage to the environment by the employer
- the deliberate concealing of information about any of the above by the employer
We at Hart Brown can discuss and guide you on all steps to take if you have concerns about your employer’s conduct. We will make sure any disclosure is protected under the Act and will help you pursue a claim for compensation if you find you have been treated badly as a result of blowing the whistle. Getting advice early is essential.
