Although there is frequent talk of introducing a no-fault based divorce system, the courts still require that the irretrievable breakdown of the marriage is supported by one of :the following grounds:

• adultery
• unreasonable behaviour
• desertion
• two years’ separation with your spouse’s consent or five years’ separation without consent
