Retirement planning

You may spend at least a quarter of your adult life in retirement. What income will you need to enjoy those years, to do the things that you have always wanted to or just to be comfortable? The cost of living is increasing and too many people give retirement planning a low priority until it is too late.

Pension plans (also known as personal pensions) remain at the centre of most peoples’ retirement planning. They offer tax relief on contributions and a convenient way to build up funds specifically for your retirement. SIPPs (self invested pension plans) are becoming the personal pension of choice. With a wide choice of investments that can be held in pensions and a greater degree of flexibility about how benefits can be taken out ‘in retirement’, the options both before and in retirement are complex

Investment and retirement planning go hand in hand. Even if you are happy to manage your own pension fund, we can add value on:

  • how to structure your plans before retirement
  • how to arrange pension investments in preparation for income to be taken
  • the options available to you when it becomes time to start taking benefits (including choice of annuity and use of drawdown)
  • how to deal with pension benefits on divorce

At Hart Brown our pension experts understand that retirement is a major life event and will help you decide which personal pension is right for you and how best to plan for retirement.
