Criminal Injury Claims
If you are injured as a result of a criminal act and you are not able to recover damages from the other person, some compensation can still be obtained from the government under the Criminal Injuries Compensation Scheme.
Unlike other accident claims:
- compensation for the actual injuries is worked out not by reference to previous case law but by reference to a government set tariff
- there are limits on what can be claimed in terms of losses and expenses
- legal costs incurred in dealing with these claims are not generally recoverable
