Do’s and Don’ts – Medical Negligence
Do’s
- Do make a complaint through the NHS complaints procedure within 6 months of the incident complained of.
- Do keep a record of all of your appointments – who you saw, when and what they said.
- Ask the person treating you for an explanation of what has happened.
- Do keep a record of your symptoms and how they have affected your life.
- Do make a detailed note of any assistance given to you by your friends or family i.e. what exactly they did for you, when, and how much time they spent.
- Do keep a record of all your losses and expenses.
- Do instruct a solicitor who specialises in medical negligence claims.
Don’ts
- Don’t incur any unreasonable expenses.
- Don’t throw away receipts for medication or any other losses and expenses related to your ongoing health problems.
- Don’t settle your claim or any part of it without reference to us.
- Don’t accept at face value comments by those treating you that what has gone wrong is just one of those things.
