Alice is an Associate Solicitor in our Trusts and Estate department based in Cobham. Previously she worked as a Chartered Legal Executive for 2 years, specialising in the drafting of wills, probate and trusts.

Alice has experience working in a range of private client work including lasting powers of attorney, the administration of estates and inheritance tax planning. She combines technical knowledge and critical problem solving with practical, pragmatic and clear advice. Her approach recognises the sensitive nature of her work and the need to help clients navigate complex legal challenges in difficult times.

Prior to pursuing a career in the law, Alice worked in Parliament before moving into industry where she worked with large, global businesses as well as small SMEs advising on a range of legal and regulatory matters.

Andrea is a Senior Associate Solicitor in the Family Law Department. She qualified as a Solicitor in 1990 after reading law at Nottingham Trent University. She has worked as a Family Law Solicitor in Surrey, Hampshire and London and joined Hart Brown in 2025.

Her practice involves advising on all aspects of family law and in particular, the financial aspects of divorce with a particular interest in cases involving capital gains tax and pension sharing. She also has extensive experience in negotiating and litigating financial settlements within a family breakdown situation. Her work includes advising family law clients in relation to financial matters to enable them to reach a negotiated settlement.

Andrea has a particular interest in cases involving family owned properties, inherited wealth, as well as businesses and pensions. She has extensive experience in representing clients from all areas of the community. She also deals with matters in relation to pre-nuptial agreements, deeds of separation and agreements in relation to cohabitation.

Andrea also assists clients in relation to children matters, particularly in relation to child arrangements within applications under the Children Act 1989. She has extensive experience in representing parents and wider family relatives and has considerable experience in acting in relation to issues of child protection and relocation of children abroad. She is aware of the sensitivity and extensive needs of children within a family breakdown situation. She has a particular concern for children with special educational needs.

Andrea frequently interacts with CAFCASS. CAFCASS is the department of the Family Court Service that undertakes child safeguarding assessments in children court cases. CAFCASS also represents children in complex cases.

Andrea has had extensive experience throughout her career in relation to the protection of clients where there has been a difficulty with domestic abuse. Such abuse can include coercive and controlling conduct by one family member against another including financial misconduct. Andrea can assist clients in relation to obtaining protective injunctions, such as non-molestation and occupation orders or financial freezing orders under S37 of the Matrimonial Causes Act 1973, as well as signposting clients to obtain wider help within the community for practical support.

Andrea has been a member of Resolution for over 30 years. Resolution is the national organisation for family lawyers and other professionals involved within the resolution of family disputes. She is committed to the Resolution Code of Practice. Andrea is an experienced advocate within all areas of family law. Andrea has previously served on the committees for Surrey Resolution.

Andrea’s aim is to advise her family law clients carefully in relation to the variety of options that they have open to them in a relationship breakdown situation. She emphasizes the importance of collaborative and constructive communications with other family lawyers within our surrounding legal community.

Andrea is very much aware of the financial challenges and concerns for family law clients of all ages going through a relationship breakdown. She aims to provide legal and practical advice and representation that enables her clients to move forward in their lives as effectively and carefully as can be achieved.

Belinda is a Senior Associate in our Godalming office.

Belinda has over 10 years’ experience in advising private clients, specialising in dealing with a wide variety of matters including wills and testamentary issues, estate planning and the administration of estates and all Court of Protection matters such as Lasting Powers of Attorney and Deputyships.

In dealing efficiently with the legal processes, Belinda aims to put clients at their ease and by being sensitive to their situations, to provide clear advice in a way that clients are easily able to understand.

Belinda previously had experience at the Care Quality Commission, she has advised at the Citizens Advice Bureau and she has also represented clients at Court.

Carol began her financial career in Banking gathering knowledge in all areas of the banking system. She then moved into the HR Department of the Local Head Office to work on projects within the local area. She left banking to have, and concentrate on her family.

Following her career break she briefly returned to banking, but in 1996 changed direction and joined Hart Brown where she has found that her experience in banking and relationships made within the industry have proved invaluable to her role. In 2002 she was made Finance Administration Manager with responsibility for managing the legal cashiers and in January 2022 Carol was appointed the firm's Compliance Officer for Finance and Administration (COFA).

Her role is to ensure that all aspects of the firm's finances runs smoothly, making sure that at all times the firm adheres to the Solicitors Accounts Rules ensuring the safety of client monies. She works closely with the board on all financial decisions, and enjoys working with, and building strong relationships with both the banking industry and accountants.

Celia has a wealth of experience in commercial property and in particular in acquisition of developments sites, acting for both landlord and tenants on commercial leases of industrial units and offices and acting for landowners on the granting of options. Two of her most memorable cases have been the negotiating of sale of land at Battersea Power Station and acting on the acquisition and disposal of a major development site which included negotiation with the office of the Mayor of London.

Celia joined Hart Brown in 2007 and she became a consultant in 2015.

David is a highly experienced solicitor in the Commercial Property team, specialising in sales and acquisitions, advice on leases (both to landlords and tenants), and property transactions involving pension schemes. With 20 years of experience in commercial property law, David provides expert legal guidance to a diverse range of clients, including investors and corporate entities.

David’s practice covers all aspects of commercial property, from negotiating and drafting complex sales and acquisitions agreements to advising on leasehold matters, including lease renewals, assignments, and restructuring. He has a particular expertise in transactions involving pension schemes, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements while safeguarding the interests of trustees and scheme members.

A trusted advisor, David works closely with clients to understand their business goals, offering pragmatic and strategic legal solutions tailored to their needs. His deep knowledge of the commercial property market, combined with a reputation for delivering results, allows him to navigate complex legal landscapes and facilitate successful transactions.

Debbie, who is a Partner, specialises in residential property. After joining Hart Brown in 1984 she quickly progressed through the ranks qualifying as a Legal Executive in 1996. She was admitted to the Fellowship in 1997. Debbie is well known in the Godalming area and receives high praise both from clients and agents who come back to her time and time again.

Her most memorable case was the purchase of a property for clients who were looking for a quick turnaround. It was a mere 3 working days from instructions to exchange of contracts.

Dimple is a Senior Associate Solicitor in the family law department. She qualified as a solicitor in 2007 after reading law at City University and has worked as a family solicitor in both Surrey and London. She joined Hart Brown in 2022.

Her practice involves advising on all aspects of family law and in particular the financial aspects of divorce and dissolution of civil partnership. She has extensive experience in negotiating financial settlements and advises clients with substantial assets including family businesses, pensions, trusts, foreign assets and inherited wealth as well as clients with more modest income and assets. She also deals with the variation and enforcement of existing financial orders.

Dimple assists clients to protect assets and family wealth through prenuptial and postnuptial agreements. She also assists cohabiting couples with cohabitation agreements, financial and property disputes as well as financial claims for children of unmarried parents under Schedule 1 Children Act.

Dimple has considerable experience advising on arrangements for children following divorce and separation including relocation of children both within England and Wales and abroad. She also assists clients where there are concerns around domestic abuse through personal protection injunctions such as Non-Molestation and Occupations Orders.

Ed studied law at the University of Sheffield, before moving to the USA. He was admitted to the Missouri (USA) Bar in 2008 where he practised until moving back to England in 2024 and joining Hart Brown in 2025. During his time practising in the USA, Ed spent a large portion of his career providing corporate and commercial advice to small and medium sized companies, as well as government institutions in the role of an outside General Counsel.

Ed received multiple awards and recognitions during his time practising in the USA. Ed also served as the President of a regional chamber of commerce, whose membership included some of the largest companies in the USA.

Ed’s experience extends to commercial disputes in a wide variety of business sectors. Ed has significant experience with mediation and alternative dispute resolution processes, as well as conducting contested hearings and trials. Ed has also twice argued before the U.S. Federal Court of Appeals (8th Circuit) in cases involving commercial disputes.

Ed is part of the commercial and corporate team at Hart Brown, providing both general business advice and working with clients on the sale and purchase of businesses. Ed enjoys learning about his clients' businesses and partnering with them to find the best solution to assist them with their goals.

Elizabeth is the holder of a honours degree in History from The University of London, where she specialised in the period from Antiquity through to the Middle Ages. Elizabeth then attended the University of Law and after completing the Graduate Diploma in Law and Legal Practice Course she was also awarded an honours degree in Law.

Elizabeth is a business development, marketing and sales professional with more than 18 years’ experience within the legal services and luxury retail sectors. Throughout her career, Elizabeth has specialised in marketing, client care, business development, premium sales, business and employee management and event planning.

As the Head of Marketing at Hart Brown Solicitors, Elizabeth is responsible for helping ensure the continued long-standing reputation of the firm as the law practice of choice among individuals and businesses throughout Surrey and beyond.

Eva is CIPD qualified having worked for several years within an HR setting, she also has a great deal of client facing experience. Alongside the day to day HR administration, Eva works to support the firm's wellbeing initiatives, Health & Safety obligations and the firm-wide learning and development programme.

Gerard qualified with a large regional firm in 1991. Since 1995 he has specialised exclusively on claimant personal injury work. More recently he has focused on complex higher value clinical negligence and personal injury claims, achieving seven figure settlements in personal injury cases involving amputation, multiple orthopaedic injuries and head injuries.

His greatest success has been winning the high profile case of Delaney-v-The Secretary of State for Transport where after almost 9 years of litigation involving two Court of Appeal hearings and an application to the Supreme Court he was finally able to establish that the Motor Insurers’ Bureau Agreement was incompatible with EEC law. As a direct result of the decision in this case the agreement has had to be amended to the benefit of many future victims of uninsured drivers.

Gerard is a member of the Law Society’s Personal Injury Panel and he appears in the latest Legal 500 rankings in the fields of personal injury and clinical negligence.

Memorable cases Jeremy has worked on include completing a purchase within a week from instruction where his client was given a great incentive on a new build property if he completed that quickly.

Another involved the sale of a property where a Local Authority had acquired a strip of land along the frontage in the 1960s for potential road widening. They had granted a license over the land in exchange. The road widening never took place and the scheme had been abandoned, however, the buyers’ solicitors were not happy with the license arrangement that remained in place. Jeremy drafted a conditional contract clause which gave his client 9 months to resolve the issue with the Local Authority and to pay any premium agreed out of the exchange deposit. After lengthy negotiations with the Local Authority which involved taking Counsel’s Opinion in relation to the status of the license, an agreement was reached with the Local Authority just in time to enable him to give notice to the buyers’ solicitors to complete the sale.

John started his career at Hart Brown in 2016 before becoming a Partner in 2024. John has more than 21 years post qualification experience in property.

Jordan is a Partner with more than 5 years' post-qualified experience, specialising in Wills, lasting powers of attorney and the administration of trusts and estates. He is based in the Trusts & Estates department in Guildford and Woking.

Jordan studied law at the University of Southampton, graduating in 2013. Whilst completing his LPC on a part time basis, Jordan worked in the firm’s quality and compliance department as the firm’s Chief Internal Auditor, before commencing his training as a Solicitor in 2016.

Kayleigh joined Hart Brown in 2025 as a Chartered Legal Executive, having completed all three stages of the CILEX Professional Qualification to become a specialist Private Client lawyer.

Based in our Godalming office, Kayleigh has significant experience in the areas of Wills, Lasting Powers of Attorney, Deputyship applications, Probate, Estate Administration and Inheritance Tax planning.

Kayleigh formally qualified in 2021 but her experience spans a much longer period, having worked in various Private Client roles since 2013.

Kayleigh’s role often takes her into the local community where she enjoys meeting with other related organisations offering services that can benefit her clients.

In her spare time, Kayleigh enjoys spending time with her family, friends and likes to travel as much as she can.

Kerry is a barrister in our Woking office.

Kerry was called to the Bar (Middle Temple) in 1999. She practised at 3 Stone Buildings (now Three Stone following a merger) until 2018 when she took a planned career break to spend time with her young family. During her time at the Bar, she specialised in private client work, both contentious and non-contentious. She has a wealth of experience advising on: trusts and estates; Wills, LPAs, probate and family provision (1975 Act claims); related inheritance taxation and professional negligence claims; Court of Protection and Elder Law; and co-ownership disputes.

An experienced litigator and advocate, Kerry also qualified as a mediator in 2008 and is keen to work with clients to find sensible, cost-effective solutions to problems as they arise. She is experienced at advising clients across the spectrum, including HNW and UHNW clients.

Kerry was a full member of STEP from 2005 to 2017 and will be reactivating her membership in due course. She was a committee member of the STEP Mental Capacity SIG from 2016-2017.

Kerry is keen to give back to the community and was on the panel for the Bar Pro Bono Unit (now Advocate) from 2006-2017, volunteered at Surrey Law Centre and at Refugee Action Kingston. She is happy to give talks to the wider community, including care settings and at local schools.

Lawrence is a Partner based in the Guildford office, and he is also Head of the Residential Property team at Hart Brown LLP.

Lawrence qualified as a solicitor in 2001 and has extensive experience in a broad range of residential property work, including very high value transactional work and acquisitions for international investor clients. Lindsay attended the University of Plymouth 1996-2000 and achieved a BA (Hons) Business Studies degree.

Lindsay’s first career was with the Police Force where she worked as a Police Officer between 2002 - 2015. After beginning her service on uniformed patrol, she became an accredited Detective Sergeant who specialised in the safeguarding of children and adults. She worked in a multi-agency environment with Surrey County Council’s social care teams and the NHS to protect the public, particularly in the context of domestic abuse.

Lindsay laterally developed her second career through her natural curiosity for the law and subsequent employment as a Paralegal in 2016. She studied to become a Solicitor at the same time. She has undertaken a Graduate Diploma in Law and the Legal Practice Course (LPC) with Masters in Law, Business and Management (MSc).

Lindsay joined our Trusts & Estates team in 2025 and specialises in Private Client matters including the drafting of Wills, Lasting Powers of Attorney and Estate Administration including Inheritance Tax. Louisa is an Associate in our Guildford office and specialises in employment law.

Louisa qualified as a Solicitor in 2005 after studying for an LLB (Hons) Law and Spanish degree. She previously worked as an Associate at a well known law firm based in London.

In April 2025, Louise took up the role of Chair of the the firm.

Lucy qualified as a solicitor in 1995 and has practised since then at a variety of firms, both in Central London and regionally. She joined Hart Brown in 2024 as a Senior Associate in our Commercial Property Department based at our Guildford office.

Lucy has 29 years’ post qualification experience in a wide variety of non-contentious property related matters, covering commercial and residential property and leasehold enfranchisement.

Margaret is a Senior Associate and specialises in wills, the establishment and administration of trusts, probate, tax planning and powers of attorney.

Margaret joined Hart Brown in 2017, bringing with her a wealth of experience to the Trusts & Estates department in Cobham. She has worked as a Private Client lawyer in Surrey for over 30 years, and is also a member of STEP and the Law Society Private Client Section.

Mark is a Senior Associate specialising in clinical negligence and serious injury claims.

Mark’s role is to investigate allegations of negligence including at inquests to try and get his clients any additional help they may need and to recover for them the compensation they deserve. Melissa brings over 19 years of legal experience across both the UK and New Zealand. She began her career as a Licensed Conveyancer, spending 12 years with two top 100 law firms before relocating to New Zealand, where she completed her law degree at Waikato University and was admitted to the bar in May 2021.

Her expertise spans commercial property and private client matters, including wills, trusts, estate administration, powers of attorney, and property sharing agreements. Earlier in her career, she worked closely with developer clients across Asia, assisting with onsite exchanges in the sale of leasehold flats. Simon joined Hart Brown in 2024 as a Consultant in our Dispute Resolution department.

With extensive experience in the law, Simon was admitted as a solicitor in 1986 and has worked continuously in legal practice since then. Simon is also the holder of a degree in French.

During his career, Simon has worked across many areas of law including criminal law, personal injury, insolvency, family law and civil litigation. Simon was a criminal Duty Solicitor for a number of years, also acting on an agency basis as an advocate for the Crown Prosecution Service. For 15 years, Simon was the Managing Partner of another legal practice.

Latterly, Simon has concentrated on civil litigation work which mainly comprises property litigation, contentious probate and some commercial litigation.

Simon's litigation work is concentrated in the County Court, the High Court, the Court of Appeal, the First-tier Tribunal and the Upper Tribunal.
